I was born and lived in Ireland up until I came to the USA in 1999. I have been working with babies and children for as long as I can remember, and this evolved into me finding my niche and becoming a postpartum night doula. As a mother of 4, I know how important it is for new parents to differentiate night from day. I also know how emotionally nourishing it is for both parents to have close support through this time. My qualifications include:

  • • DONA Certified
    • Natural Resources certified
    • Certified Infant Massage Instructor
    • CPR certified
    • Personal breastfeeding experiences
    • Experienced in multiples
    • Excellent references
    • Certified Lactation Educator

My strength as a doula begins by meeting the family where they are at when they bring their newborn(s) home and I work with them to get them to where they want to be.  No matter how much preparation new parents do before birth, there are certain emotions and situations that are impossible to predict and that can be very challenging in the initial stages. Here is where having an experienced Doula is the grounding support that is needed.  Arriving home as a new bigger family throws a new dynamic into a family situation and this can be very overwhelming.  This is where I help bring stability back to the family so they can move forward with confidence and energy and thrive as a family in this new dynamic.

I discovered my love of "mothering a mother", nurturing a newborn, child development and psychology through my work as a Nanny. That led me to study for a degree in Early Childhood Development and to become a Postpartum Doula. My emphasis as a Doula and as a Nanny has been working with twins, beginning in infancy through the toddler years.

I recognized the need to attend to mothers with their concerns and uncertainties and this led me to extend my training to Postpartum Doula Education with Natural Resources San Francisco and with DONA International. Certificates awarded include:

• Certified Postpartum Doula (Natural Resources, SF; DONA International)
• Certificate in Lactation Counselling, UCSD
• Certified Infant Massage Instructor
• General Child Development Certificate
• Infant and Toddler Development Certificate
• Early Childhood Administration Certificate
• 39 Early Childhood Development Units
• CPR trained
• Trustlined

As a Postpartum Doula, I assist the mother in the smallest and largest ways, help her find her own parenting style and also give support and advice in a non-judgmental fashion. In addition, to supporting mothers physically and emotionally, I encourage the building of both the mother’s and children’s confidence in their new relationship together. I focus on promoting and strengthening the bond with the children and their extended family, developing into a healthy and close family unit.  During the past nine years I have continued to acquire essential experience.  I am interested particularly in multiple birth families.

I will continue experiential growth and education certification to maintain my high standards and to be on the leading edge of child development and service to the mothers with whom I am fortunate to work.

There are many benefits to having me as your Postpartum Doula. The work that I do covers a lot of ground, but I will simply go over the highlights. When new parents begin the task of caring for their new child, they often have more questions than they have answers. Every new parent wants to do the best they can for their child, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to stay up-to-date with all the latest information. By bringing me, a registered Doula into the picture, you are effectively reducing your stress and increasing your ability to enjoy the tides of change. As a Doula, I make sure that I am up to date on the latest developments in infant care so that I am able to apply that knowledge towards real-life situations.

My career actually started early on in life. I was born in beautiful Ireland. As a young girl, I was exceptionally responsible and patient.  These qualities along with my calm demeanor made me a great candidate for baby-sitting.  My family and their friends all wanted me to baby-sit their children. After a while, I became well-known for being good with kids. People where always surprised by my ability to care for children.  Eventually my reputation led to the position of Nanny, offered to me in the United States.  In 1994, I took the opportunity to come the U.S. and worked as a nanny for over fifteen years.  Ever since I started caring for children back in Ireland, I have grown as a person and have come to enjoy the role that I fill with every new parent. Life has given me experience with every age group, from infants to teenagers. I am confident that I can help parents with the challenges of parenthood so that they can enjoy the time that the family shares together.

I attained my Postpartum Doula Care certification in 2006 through the Natural Resources Program in San Francisco, California. During the process of getting my certification, I came to realize that this was my calling. I have always loved children and learning how to provide an infant with the best possible care was the path that I wanted to take with my life. What I found amazing through this whole process was exactly how much care a new parent actually needs.
