The first few weeks following the birth of a baby can be an exciting but overwhelming time for new parents as they adjust to their new roles.
Irish Postpartum Doulas can help. Whether you need an expert with twins or triplets, nurturing care for your baby so you can sleep at night, or just an extra set of hands, our Postpartum Doulas can help you ease the transition during the delicate postpartum weeks. Our Postpartum Doulas are highly experienced in all aspects of newborn care and provide a wide range of services.
- Evidence shows that postpartum depression rates are substantially lower when mothers have postpartum support. Our Postpartum Doulas provide unconditional care for new mothers and families, allowing more time for rest and rejuvenation. In addition, if other children are in the home, postpartum care helps to maintain their normal routine and return a sense of normalcy to the home.
When/how long can I expect a doula to work with my family?
Our postpartum doulas typically work with families as soon as the mother and baby are home from the hospital. Although there is no “set” schedule, we generally work with families a minimum of two nights a week for several weeks or months, depending on the individual needs of the family. Generally, our doulas work from 10:00PM to 6:00AM.
What kind of experience do Irish Postpartum Doulas have?
All of our postpartum doulas are certified either through DONA International (Doulas of North America)—the oldest, largest and most respected doula association in the world—or Natural Resources, a leading independent pregnancy and parenting center in San Francisco. In addition, our doulas have taken additional coursework in breastfeeding, massage and postpartum support and also have extensive infant and childcare experience as nannies, mothers and siblings (which is no small feat in an Irish family!)
Does Irish Postpartum Doulas teach a particular parenting style?
No. Our doulas’ primary role is to support the mother, and we encourage her to develop her own natural parenting style. In fact, we pride ourselves on our flexible, non-judgmental approach.
